Brevard Plastic Surgery

The “Tummy Tuck” or more clinically applicable abdominoplasty, is a procedure in which excess skin and fat is removed from the patient’s anterior abdominal area.  The surgeon removes skin and fat and in turn, tightens and improves the overall aesthetic appearance of the area.  Careful attention is made to hide scarring low on the bikini line.  The procedure is very popular among post pregnancy women as well as others who have experienced a significant weight reduction.  It is also an effective way to reduce the appearance of stretch marks in the area as well.  Abdominoplasty is not a weight reduction surgery. A consultation can determine if abdominoplasty would be the right choice for you.  Sometimes, liposuction is the better choice.

Pre-Operative

After it has been decided that a tummy tuck is right for you, there is some minimal pre-operative evaluation that we will ask you to perform.  This will be based on your age and overall health.  We recommend that if you have a plan to lose a significant amount of weight, you do it before you schedule your surgery.

Post-Operative

Recovery varies greatly for tummy tuck patients.  Because the surgery is performed at the core areas of the body, it can be uncomfortable moving about for several days.  This discomfort is usually well controlled with oral pain medications and we also have our patients use an abdominal binder for one to two weeks.  There will be scheduled follow-ups during this period and the patient may need slightly more time before getting back to work or lifting compared to other cosmetic surgeries.
